Gilded Whiskers shows a hamster and its skeleton, made in a Renaissance style, capturing the fascination with the natural world that was central to early scientific inquiry. Within the confined space of a hamster cage, the work reflects the historical tradition of curating curiosities—fossils and anatomical specimens, once displayed by the wealthy to provoke wonder. Peter Carrington (b.2002) is from Northern Ireland. He graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art and is currently studying a Master of Fine Art at Ulster University. 

Peter has been awarded the BILL PENNY MEMORIAL AWARD (2024) and has work held in public and private collections. Much of Peter’s work is miniature installations and sculptures and Gilded Whiskers is the beginning of a mix of printmaking with a miniature scale.

Gilded Whiskers mostra um hamster e o seu esqueleto, feitos num estilo renascentista, captando o fascínio pelo mundo natural que foi central para a investigação científica inicial. Dentro do espaço confinado de uma gaiola de hamster, a obra reflete a tradição histórica de curadoria de curiosidades – fósseis e espécimes anatômicos, outrora exibidos pelos ricos para provocar admiração. Peter Carrington (n.2002) é da Irlanda do Norte. Ele formou-se com um BA Hons em Belas Artes e, atualmente, está estudar num Mestrado em Belas Artes na Universidade de Ulster. 

Peter foi premiado com o BILL PENNY MEMORIAL AWARD (2024) e tem trabalhos realizados em coleções públicas e privadas. O grande parte do trabalho de Peter são instalações e esculturas em miniatura e Gilded Whiskers é o início de uma mistura de gravura com uma escala em miniatura.
